    I've been lucky enough to grow up in a household with high end audio and musically appreciative parents, start my record collection there, keep going, put them away for a few decades but haul them out again and get some more. I like vinyl but lets be totally clear: dynamic range, frequency response, low noise, and stereo separation belongs to the CD. A/B comparisons leave no doubt. But the CD is not visually appealing for trendy youtube videos and social media. Don't be fooled. But enjoy your records too. The tactile experience, bigger cover art, gatefold packages are also fun.

    I definitely have bought records I wouldn’t have otherwise due to FOMO marketing. BUT, I’ve said this before, two things that are no good to me on vinyl: a scratch record or an unopened one. I’ve been bashed for finding a rare, sealed pressing and cracking the seal. Certain people think it’s crazy for me to open the record and that I immediately depreciated the value of the record. My perspective is, why spend all that cash on something you can’t enjoy? I buy cars to drive and records to play. If I want to look at them, I’ll go to the dealership or a local record store. Otherwise, if it’s coming home it’s going to be enjoyed. 👍

    • @VinylLatte
      @VinylLatte 5 дней назад

      💯 it makes you wonder how many sealed copies of records will be released in the wild 10 or 20 years from now. I imagine that once people who collect records for art or as a collectible realize that these things take space, hard to move, require proper storage, etc., we’ll see some hit locals in the future.

    I agree on Hendrix, VH and G’n’R, but I would replace the others with the first Montrose record and the first Black Sabbath album. I’m not much of a fan of punk and although a great album, Zep 1 was a ripoff of Truth by Jeff Beck and quite a bit of stealing old blues songs and calling them their own.

    I don't know if I can choose 5 so for me I'll say Zeppelin I (not my favorite from them, I like Physical Graffiti).They changed music with that album, just like Elvis and the Beatles did before them. I was born in 76' and like you I do remember when G&R came out. EVERYONE in school was talking about Paradise City. And while I'm not really into grunge anymore, Nevermind was mind blowing when it came out. Top five is tough as most bands I listen to, their first album is not my favorite!
